Ad hoc Provisional Technical Working Group for the Global Monitoring Plan for POPs (GMP-TWG)

Expert Group Meeting to Revise the Guidance Document for the Global Monitoring of POPs:
4-7 December 2006, Geneva, Switzerland

The Conference of the Parties (COP) of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants decided at its second meeting to establish a provisional ad hoc technical working group (TWG) to coordinate and oversee implementation of the Global Monitoring Plan (GMP). The COP further specified that the tasks to be undertaken by the TWG would include:

“To develop guidance for data comparability, taking into account the available guidance document produced by UNEP Chemicals”.

The TWG held its first meeting 9-12 October 2006 at RECETOX - Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic) and decided to review and revise the UNEP (2004) Guidance for a Global Monitoring Programme for Persistent Organic Pollutants for obtaining comparable data under the GMP. The TWG proposed that such revision should be done at an intersessional meeting and that the revised Guidance should be available for its consideration at its second meeting.

The Expert Group Meeting to revise the existing guidance will be held from 4-7 December 2006 at the International Environment House 11-13, chemin des Anémones in Geneva, Switzerland.
