At its eleventh meeting, the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention invited Parties and others to submit short case studies on remediation of sites contaminated with POPs to be considered in further developing the guidance.
Parties and others are invited to submit to the Secretariat relevant information and case studies, in particular as they relate to:
- management and remediation
- inventory development
- financial mechanisms
- information relevant for developing countries, countries with economies in transition, and for developed countries
- information covering a large range of scenarios and type of contamination issue e.g. pesticides, production facilities etc. and for managing multiple contaminant scenarios in single sites (e.g. covering simultaneously POPs, metals, hydrocarbons etc.)
- examples of problems that can occur as well as successes.
Case studies submitted to the Secretariat are posted below, as received, and are not reviewed or evaluated for best practices. The purpose of this repository of case studies is to support the experts in their ongoing work on contaminated sites, and to present examples of other cases of remediation of sites contaminated with POPs.
