The Convention recognizes the important contribution that businesses and industry (e.g. producers, manufacturing sector, wastes treatment companies) can make to achieve the reduction and/or elimination of releases of persistent organic pollutants into the environment by offering new and efficient technologies and by making investments for the development of alternatives, etc.
Businesses and industry may make various contributions to the scientific and technical work under the Convention, e.g. through provision of information to the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee when a proposal for listing a new chemicals to the Convention is under consideration.
Without the active involvement and engagement of the industry sectors, none of the goals of elimination, reduction, or environmentally sound disposal, are likely to be achieved.
